At the State Democratic Convention the Organizational Meeting discussed the issues of the selection method of County Central Committees . The background is fairly simple: Elections cost money to run. The State does not want to pay for it. (Like they ever wanted to pay for anything?) With the passage of Proposition 14 *the Top Two System*, the only pure party only election in the state is the Presidential Primary. The current terms of Central Committees runs 2 years so that in the Gubernatorial years there is no pure party only election. So the State passed a bill AB1200 (approved by our elected officials) that gives the local county committees three choices as of now:
1. Conduct a government election once every 4 years during the Presidential . . . → Read More: Central Committee Election Procedure Changes

The first draft maps from the California Citizens Redistricting Commission were released on Friday. They are slightly different from the ones we saw earlier this week.
If these lines are implemented, Contra Costa's political landscape in Congress and the State Legislature will change — especially in East Contra Costa County, where Oakley is separated from the rest of the county in all three maps (click here to see the Commission's first draft maps, click here to see the maps with additional analysis from Redistricting Partners).
For example, for Congress, Contra Costa would find itself split into four Congressional Districts. Rep. George Miller's district (click here for pdf map) would fit entirely within Contra Costa County, but taking Rep. Miller to Lamorinda and Danville and San Ramon. Rep. The Lamorinda Democratic club hosted the political action wing of the Planned Parenthood organization in a presentation about the recent efforts against Planned Parenthood from the Republicans in Washington and elsewhere. They characterized the attack as not just about abortion (which represents only 3% of their operations and receives no FEDERAL funds.) but as a major attack or a grab for control over women's reproductive rights including contraception. They detailed that in 26 states the Republicans have control over both houses of the state's legislature and that there were some 900 anti-women's reproduction rights bills introduced with about 33 passing.
There were some astounding numbers given out including the following:
1. One in Five women in America will eventually use Planned Parenthood
2. One in three women in America . . . → Read More: Lamorinda Dems hear from Planned Parenthood Political Wing

The Citizen’s Redistricting Commission has posted some less-than-clear maps of staff direction during their line drawing meetings over the past few days. We have taken many of these maps, imported them into maptitude with the PDI voter dataset, and have for you some new maps and analysis you can email around to your friends. There are three sections;
