At the State Democratic Convention the Organizational Meeting discussed the issues of the selection method of County Central Committees . The background is fairly simple: Elections cost money to run. The State does not want to pay for it. (Like they ever wanted to pay for anything?) With the passage of Proposition 14 *the Top Two System*, the only pure party only election in the state is the Presidential Primary. The current terms of Central Committees runs 2 years so that in the Gubernatorial years there is no pure party only election. So the State passed a bill AB1200 (approved by our elected officials) that gives the local county committees three choices as of now:

Before an intense crowd of 200, George Miller addressed the crowd on a broad scope of issues and took questions from the crowd, which included a sprinkling of Tea Party T-shirt wearers as well as two challengers to George in the Open Primary. The format was that Congressman would take direct questions from people who raised their hand in the audience which led to some chaos as a few determined to disrupt things and hi-hack the process stood up and interrupted with their questions. After a particularly disruptive incident the Congressman made one of his more poignant comments when he spoke to the crowd directly calming them down and then making the comment that: “I am sure that you are the same people who are complaining why . . . → Read More: Congressman Miller at the Peace and Justice Hall in Walnut Creek

The Saturday Democratic BBQ in Antioch featured a slew of elected officials in an informal open setting that allowed direct access to them and the host of the regulars of the Central Committee. Amongst the elected officials were
Congressmen: George Miller and Jerry McNerney
State Senator Mark DeSaulnier
State Assemblymember Joan Buchanan
City Council folks- Jim Frazier (Oakley), Kish Rajan (Walnut Creek).
Three Staff representatives from Susan Bonilla's office led by Mark Herbert her District Director.
The food was ample and well prepared by Jim Donnelly and his legion of helpers. The chicken rumored to be marinated in Margheritas was especially liked and cleaned out faster than piranha's on a rib eye.
The talks given by the Congressmen spoke of the deep divisions in Washington and how the Tea Party is pushing the . . . → Read More: BBQ Featured Contra Costa Electeds

The County Board of Supervisors have approved with slight amendments district configuration 17D. This creates the greatest changes in Districts 2,3 and 5. Basically the Richmond based Richmond District adds Pinole East of highway 4, District 2 starts at Lamorinda and goes through half of Walnut Creek to San Ramon but the areas of Diablo, Blackhawk and Camino Tassajara are grouped with the bulk of Antioch-Brentwood-Oakley that now becomes the center of the East County. Maybe we should create a new name for the area like Lamorinda is for Lafayette-Moraga-Orinda. How does Antibrentley sound? or Broakticoh? or AntiOakwood? ((I think we have to work on this some more- so probably just EAST District will work for now)). District 4 remains centered on Concord-Pleasant Hill-Clayton with . . . → Read More: So Whose District are you in Now? CC Redistricts Finally.

The Diablo Valley Democrats set up a Voter Registration booth at the Todos Santos-Concord July 4th parade and registered 20 people. There were 12 Democrats. 2 Decline to State, 1 Green and 5 Republicans. Not a bad ratio at all.
The 'How To' or the story of 'How Done' of this may be of interest to the Democratic Clubs out there.
1. We secured official permission from the Parade folks and got an official booth position. Originally they wanted to charge us $100 but as we were not selling anything a personal appeal to the organizers got the charge down to $10. They also kindly gave us a prime spot on a corner by the second viewing stand. This was a good location and better than being in . . . → Read More: DVDems Score Voter Reg at Concord’s July 4th.
