The County Board of Supervisors have approved with slight amendments district configuration 17D. This creates the greatest changes in Districts 2,3 and 5. Basically the Richmond based Richmond District adds Pinole East of highway 4, District 2 starts at Lamorinda and goes through half of Walnut Creek to San Ramon but the areas of Diablo, Blackhawk and Camino Tassajara are grouped with the bulk of Antioch-Brentwood-Oakley that now becomes the center of the East County. Maybe we should create a new name for the area like Lamorinda is for Lafayette-Moraga-Orinda. How does Antibrentley sound? or Broakticoh? or AntiOakwood? ((I think we have to work on this some more- so probably just EAST District will work for now)). District 4 remains centered on Concord-Pleasant Hill-Clayton with . . . → Read More: So Whose District are you in Now? CC Redistricts Finally.

The Diablo Valley Democrats set up a Voter Registration booth at the Todos Santos-Concord July 4th parade and registered 20 people. There were 12 Democrats. 2 Decline to State, 1 Green and 5 Republicans. Not a bad ratio at all.
The 'How To' or the story of 'How Done' of this may be of interest to the Democratic Clubs out there.
1. We secured official permission from the Parade folks and got an official booth position. Originally they wanted to charge us $100 but as we were not selling anything a personal appeal to the organizers got the charge down to $10. They also kindly gave us a prime spot on a corner by the second viewing stand. This was a good location and better than being in . . . → Read More: DVDems Score Voter Reg at Concord’s July 4th.

Gathering at the Antioch City Council Chambers, the mayors of Oakley (Jim Frazier-D), Brentwood (Bob Taylor-R) and Antioch (Jim Davis-R) joined with the Vice Mayor of Pittsburg(Ben Johnson-DTS) in an interesting forum hosted by the East County Democrats for Action club in a very civilized non-partisan forum.
Questions were asked from a collection from the audience and ranged all over without any directly partisan or hostile loaded questions.
Some basic salient features were:
1. Brentwood has a substantial kids' shadow government program where the kids spend time with Council members and city staff including the Police Chief. It took a few years to develop but the kids have come around to incorporate it into the education culture of the city. This is a good reminder . . . → Read More: Mayor’s Forum in Antioch hosted by East County Dems

The Lamorinda Democratic club hosted the political action wing of the Planned Parenthood organization in a presentation about the recent efforts against Planned Parenthood from the Republicans in Washington and elsewhere. They characterized the attack as not just about abortion (which represents only 3% of their operations and receives no FEDERAL funds.) but as a major attack or a grab for control over women's reproductive rights including contraception. They detailed that in 26 states the Republicans have control over both houses of the state's legislature and that there were some 900 anti-women's reproduction rights bills introduced with about 33 passing.
There were some astounding numbers given out including the following:
1. One in Five women in America will eventually use Planned Parenthood
2. One in three women in America . . . → Read More: Lamorinda Dems hear from Planned Parenthood Political Wing

In the course of the three days there were over 2000 delegates and hundreds of others in the Democratic Party joining in the Statewide Convention in Sacramento to discuss general issues, pick regional and various party leaders, participate in the forums, workshops, networking and vote on general resolutions.
Everywhere there were constant reminders of the differences between the Democratic Party and the Republican Party in California:
Delegate- half were women
Significant numbers of every sort of minority was present,
1/3 were elected directly by the Democrats in the Assembly Districts
1/3 were elected by the elected members of the central committees
1/3 were appointed by the elected state and federal office holders

Before an overflow crowd of 100 at the Concord Senior Center, Congressman George Miller and other speakers celebrated the one-year anniversary of the Health Care Act, which was signed by President Obama on March 23, 2010. Dr. William Walker of the County health services and health advocate with numerous podcasts on the subject was present. Miller called him his mentor on provisions of the bill. Walker called the repeal the act as the most serious threat to the health services of the county. Dr. Walker said that 500 dependents in the County are now eligible for care and that the eventual coverage under a Federal program would relieve the county of a major fiscal burden.
