California is the only state that has a Civil Grand Jury that is able to investigate local government. The Grand Jury also selects its own agenda of investigations and may respond to complaints from residents. This is an excellent position to have an opportunity to do some good for our communities.
The commitment is to meet in Martinez for a year. Probably about 20 hours a week of work with investigations and sub committees.
Grand Jurors are first vetted for the usual background checks and then a smaller pool of 60 is created that is representative of the entire county geographically. Of those there is a random selection to 19 members that work under a judge.

The Lamorinda Democratic Club's monthly meeting on a special night–Friday, March 9–will feature a discussion about the Contra Costa County Supervisor race in our area and a report from a former Obama Administration official.
The club's meeting will be held at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, 3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd, in Lafayette. The club's social hour will begin at a new time of 7:00 p.m., with a business meeting at 7:15 p.m. There is a $5 charge at the door to help the club cover meeting expenses.
