and reinstates eminent legal scholar Erwin Chemerinsky as the dean for the new law school. Previously the UC Irvine Chancellor had rescinded the job offer because Chemerinsky was too liberal and controversial.

The LA Times has denounced (rightfully) UC Irvine for rescinding an offer to prominent legal scholar Erwin Chemerinsky to become the founding Dean of the new law school. His crime? He is apparently too liberal for some of the UC Regents.
