With this election, we have the opportunity to ensure that more voters than
ever get involved in our country’s future. As you already know, tomorrow
Obama for America will launch Vote for Change, a national voter registration
drive, with kickoff events in all 50 states. After a brief opening and
training, we will hit the streets at predetermined locations to register
voters.

Our local event is in Martinez at the UFCW Local 5 at 4121 Alhambra Ave. at
10 a.m. Congressman George Miller and other elected and labor leaders also
have been invited.

VOTER REGISTRATION TRAINING -
At this event, organizers will train volunteers on how to register new
voters and how to set up visibility tables. Once this training is complete,
volunteers will go to predetermined locations. Help us identify locations
with lots of foot traffic on a Saturday in the Contra Costa region.
Volunteers will return to the UFCW Local sometime around 2pm.

Diablo Dems Present 15th AD Candidate Buchanan

The candidacy of Joan Buchanan for State Assembly in the 15th District gives the Democratic Party a good chance of turning the district blue for the first time in 25 years. She will speak to the Diablo Valley Democratic Club on Wednesday, May 21, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Mt. Diablo Unitarian Universalist Church, 55 Eckley Lane, Walnut Creek. Her topic will be “The 3 E’s,” Education, Economic Growth and the Environment, in California.” Bring a nonperishable food for the Monument Crisis Center.

Buchanan, a four-time president of the San Ramon Valley School Board, is credited with restoring financial soundness to the district and developing outstanding labor relations. During her tenure, test scores have increased every year and new programs have been introduced. Her priorities for the Assembly are economic growth, environmental responsibility, excellence in education, and ethical leadership.
